Human Mother's Milk & "The Closest Thing" To It "in Nature"

“Some of the molecules and cells in human milk actively help infants stave off infection -
Doctors have long known that infants who are breast-fed contract fewer infections than do those who are given formula. Until fairly recently, most physicians presumed that breast-fed children fared better simply because milk supplied directly from the breast is free of bacteria. Formula, which must often be mixed with water and placed in bottles, can become contaminated easily. Yet even infants who receive sterilized formula suffer from more meningitis and infection of the gut, ear, respiratory tract and urinary tract than do breast-fed youngsters.
The reason, it turns out, is that mother's milk actively helps newborns avoid disease in a variety of ways. Such assistance is particularly beneficial during the first few months of life, when an infant often cannot mount an effective immune response against foreign organisms. And although it is not the norm in most industrial cultures, UNICEF and the World Health Organization both advise breast-feeding to "two years and beyond." Indeed, a child's immune response does not reach its full strength until age five or so. …

I'd like to see another similar study that includes goat milk instead of bovine.

The Protective Effect of Human Milk -
Abstract:
"Supplementary formula feeds inhibited the protective effect of expressed raw and pasteurised human milk in 226 high-risk neonates in a randomised controlled trial. The infection rate in the group given pasteurised human milk and formula (33%) was significantly higher than the rates in the groups given raw human milk (10.5%), pasteurised human milk (14.3%), and raw human milk and formula (16%). This accords with the impressions that some of the association of infection with artificial feeding is partly attributable to the lack of the protective effect of human milk. Heating expressed human milk to 62.5 degrees C for 30 min significantly reduces its protective effect."[2]

Speaker Roles, Issue for Discussion, and Selected Clinical Studies:
Rodney Dietert will provide updated information from his 2017 SRA webinar based on his book, The Human Superorganism: How the Microbiome is Revolutionizing the Pursuit of a Healthy Life.
Professor Dietert will present a lecture on advances in knowledge of benefits of microbiota in neonates from an immunologist's perspective.

Katherine McComas will serve as rapporteur and consider impacts of new evidence on assessing, communicating, and managing benefits and risks to neonates.
Together, participants will deliberate implications of evidence from clinical studies of neonates in NICUs who lose benefits of the breastmilk microbiota when human milk banks pasteurize donor milk. Some studies that will be considered are summarized below.
