Spirituality & Sexuality For Men: I found this post to be a fascinating read! Even if you don't attend the weekend retreat, David Deida's book, "The Way Of The Superior Man: A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Woman, Work, and Sexual Desire" sounds like a must-read for today's spiritually-oriented man! Just reading this post got my juices flowing: any man out there done the retreat and follow-up sessions? And where are you?!?

Embodying the Awakened Masculine
For men who are committed to transformation, nothing can replace
direct, ongoing reflection from other men. A sacred circle of men is
being called forth in order to explore the limitless boundaries of
Freedom, and to embody the Awakened Masculine. Men who will stand for
your powerful transformation, and challenge you to live at your edge,

About once a week, you should sit down with your closest men friends
and discuss what you are doing in your life and what you are afraid
of doing. The conversation should be short and simple. You should
state where you are at. Then, your friends should give you a
behavioral experiment, something you can do that will reveal
something to you, or grant more freedom in your life.

What is the role of the Awakened Man in the 21st century? Our world
is literally dying for men who are living from the heart of integrity
and purpose. Can we evolve beyond our conditioned masculine roles and
live the lives were meant to live? How can we move through fear,
failure, and family patterns to open our hearts? And once the heart
is open, how will it connect to our sexuality? Body, mind, and spirit
- how can they dance harmoniously together? How can we lovingly
interact with women and fully embody our masculine nature? And how
can we connect with or create a community of men that can support us
in embodying the mature, awakened masculine on this planet?
These questions and more are explored during the Men's Initiation
Weekend, and over the course of the following 24 weeks. Following the
initiation weekend, Men's Group meetings will continue on the first
and third Wednesday evenings of each month, for the following 24
weeks. The weekend is limited to 12 participants.
Led by Greg Aurand, a trained facilitator and men's group leader,
this weekend and series of evening intensives are designed to open
the mind, heart and body, and allow the arising of the authentically
powerful masculine in each participant. In addition to weekly
meetings, participants can expect to receive regular homework
assignments. Private sessions with Greg are available as a supplement
to the curriculum.
The reflection that men receive from women is constantly changing,
and often greatly dependent upon a variety of external circumstances.
When a man attempts to guide his life without accurate reflection and
feedback, it's difficult for him to stay clearly aligned with his
purpose. Other men offer powerful and authentic feedback that allows
for greater success and powerful transformation in the lives of their
male counterparts. Men's groups offer a safe container for this
interaction to occur.

Admit to yourself that if you had to choose one or the other, the
perfect intimate relationship or achieving your highest purpose in
life, you would choose to succeed at your purpose. Just this self-
knowledge often relieves much pressure a man feels to prioritize his
relationship when, in fact, it is not his highest priority.
Your mission is your priority. Unless you know your mission and have
aligned your life to it, your core will feel empty. Your presence in
the world will be weakened, as will your presence with your intimate
partner. The next time you notice yourself "giving in" to your woman,
postponing your mission and denying your true purpose in order to
spend time with her, stop. Tell your woman that you love her, but you
cannot deny your heart's purpose. Tell her that you will spend 30
minutes (or some specific time) with her in absolute attention and
total presence, but then you must return to carry on your mission.
Your woman will be more fulfilled with 30 minutes a day of undivided
attention and ravishing love than she will with a few hours of your
weak and divided presence when your heart really isn't into it. Time
you spend with your woman should be time you really want to be with
her more than anything else. If you'd rather be doing something else,
she'll feel it. Both of you will be dissatisfied.
I started sharing David Deida's work with the San Diego Tantra Puja
Community in July, when I facilitated a white tent event for the men
during the July Tantra Puja. We have been holding men's group meeting
since about that time, and because we've had new men showing up at
every meeting, it's been difficult to go as deep as I would like.
Having a group of men that are truly committed to each other's growth
and transformation allows for this work to be much more potent. I
like David Deida's work because it offers some very strong
distinctions and practices for embodying healthy masculine energy.
I intend for the men to come away from the initiation weekend with a
few things:
Some strong energetic techniques that they can practice daily on
their own (such as microcosmic orbit breathing and energy
recirculation; an understanding about how to control and retain their
ejaculations - which I think is a vital step in embodying a masculine
essence; and perhaps some powerful Chi Kung postures).
A strong bond and commitment to one another's growth and
transformation.
Trust, Honesty, and Authenticity with one another (I want everyone to
truly get that it's completely safe and appropriate share any part of
our "brokenness" with one another).
One other element that I think will be very powerful, is using an
Archetypal Modality to help each man identify his current personality
type and characteristics. I think that the Enneagram Personality
Typing offers a powerful vehicle for this - I use an Enneagram
process that speaks from an Integral perspective. It's very useful in
identifying the Unhealthy, Average, and Healthy traits of each type,
and exploring what the next evolutionary step is for each personality
type.
