My diet..... or lack thereof
Diet and how it affects health
Date: 4/21/2005 11:57:03 AM ( 21 y ) ... viewed 4583 times At the suggestion of "Your Enchanted Gardener", I am writing about my diet and lifestyle because inevitably they both have much to do with the problem I am dealing with.
'You are what you eat' they say, well I am in big trouble! I have always been slim and small and have never concerned myself with diet, exercise or calorie counting. In general, up until I turned 30, health was something I always took for granted, assuming that it would last indefinitely through drunken party and fast food binge. 'You reap what you sow' they also say, I believe they are right.
My diet has consisted of mostly fast food and specifically McDonalds. I smoked (about a pack a day for at least 10 years), I drank (sometimes heavily and frequently, othertimes not so much), I took Birth Control pills (tried several different brands due to mood swings and extremely depressive / suicidal thoughts, which is very unlike me. Took for 12 years).
About 6 months ago I vowed to change my eating habits - slowly but surely I am making progress. I have my fast food cravings occasionally but I cook at home more often now and I never eat McDonald's anymore because I found that if I tried to eat it again after not eating it for a while, it made me really sick. I try to steer clear of fast food meats but do indulge in some taco bell on occasion.
I also began taking a one a day multivitamin, Vitamin C, Garlic supplements orally. About 4 months ago I decided to quit smoking after having the unique opportunity to see color pictures of my Grandmother's gray and black, cancerous, esophogeal (?) tumor, which was undoubtedly caused by 50+ years of smoking.
At that point, it seems my body was thrown into a bit of a quandry. Nothing seemed to work right anymore. I have joint aches and pains that I never used to have, bowel problems that never plagued me before, horrible acne such as I've never dealt with in my life, and some food sensitivity. I have since changed my makeup to a very light tinted moisturizer and visited the dermatologist, I have added some fiber to my diet which has helped.
