Where to start? I’ve always been a happy person and appreciated life so much. I honestly was so in love with life, i would fear it would end early to an illness i could have prevented. This is where the horrible mistake of starting Iodine began. I have had some health issues that I at the time thought were horrible. These were hair loss and an embarssing rash that always appeared on my legs/buttocks. Being a 27 year old living in Florida, hair loss and rash had been devasting for me. I had experienced these two symptoms since i was 21. I learned to live with it after seeing countless doctors. In the back of my mind i always figured these were early signs something is not right in my body and if i didnt fix it, disease would arise. I tried multiple candida cleanses, strict diets, liver flushes, Colon Cleanses and so on. I had highly suspected candida because of multiple Antibiotics i had been on along with birth control back in highschool. After cleanses my symptoms would always come back. I came across idodine approach and ordered Dr Brownsteins book. I began his regime right away. Guess what, hair loss and rash cleared up almost immediately. I was thrilled. I was seeing white mucus in my stools and figured it was dienoff candida. I took one iodoral pill 12.5 mg a day for 4 weeks. The only side effect I had experienced at that time was loose stools. I stopped Iodine because I was going on vacation to visit a friend. Well about 1 week after stopping iodine, I’ve experienced the following: dehydration, muscle/joint aches, flushing, hot flashes, loose stools, heart palps, extreme anxiety, and throat tightness like something is stuck in my throat. I have lost 20 pounds!!! And i did not need too. I look SCARY! I’ve gone to bed almost every night thinking I’m going to die. This scared the shit out of me. I have now been off Iodine 6 weeks and symptoms seemed to be getting worse. I’m a teacher and had to take an entire week off from school because my symptoms are so bad. I’m scared I’m going to have to leave my job i once loved so much. I have seen the following doctors: primary, acupuncturist, functional doctor, holistic doctor, and kinesiology. I even visited the ER due to heart palps. I have drained my bank account. No one seems to know what to do. My bloodwork all shows “normal ranges”. My first blood test showed my TSH 0.46. My more recent test shows my TSH rising at 0.7, T4 1.5, and T3 3.0. My antibodies tested at a 1. I’m so lost. I can’t even go to grocery store without feeling panicky and anxiety. This is ruining my life. I️ have been bed ridden for a month. My poor boyfriend, I’m miserable to be around. I have ignored all my friends because I’m too depressed and weak to even have a conversation. Besides any friend I tell I’ve taken iodine they think I’m insane. It’s so pathetic it actually gives me anxiety to see other people having fun and enjoying life. Isn’t that horrible? I basically don’t see the point in living honestly. I know that is dramatic. But my life went to shit so quick. I am suppose to be going to New York with my boyfriend next week. Little does he know NO way is that happening. This will be my first thanksgiving all by myself. Oh yay. Sorry for the long post of my depressing life. I’m just so so so lost. I’ve drained my account seeing all kinds of doctors. Only information i have gotten is to support adrenals and detox pathways. That is it. I’m so confused if my symptoms are detox? Is that even possible being off iodine for so long ? Did i give myself some type of goiter/ nodule? I don’t know if I should continue co supplements and selenium? Selenium seems to be giving me loose stools i believe. Is my body crying out for iodine. back? Any help. Any information would be appreciated.

I wish I'd be able to be somewhat of a help, but as u read my thread, I think I am in no position to speak. I hope someone here might be able to think with you and figure out what's going on. This is a reply to # 2,391,717Your symptoms are exactly identical to what I went through this year, every single bit of it. You came to the same "logical" conclusion that I and a lot of other people on her make, that Iodine will fix things because you read the book and got seduced by all the other's on here who seem to have wonderful results. Well I can tell you Iodine doesn't fix anything if you have an underlying health issue, it just sends you on a massive detox that your system can't cope with - that's where you are now and that's where I was february this year and I have still not recovered fully. My neck throbs almost continuously although not as extreme as it was, it's not my thyroid, it's the toxic lymph that is still trying to clear itself, and I am still shifting toxicity with 1 coffee enema and 1 water enema a week, but it is manageable now. I took only 3mg of Iodine for around 4 months, and my body decided to go into a healing crisis it couldn't finish. You have to focus on opening up the elimination routes big time and even then it's going to take a while. Only enemas, skin brushing and Epsom Salt baths will help because toxins are being shunted round and round your body by the liver because it cannot make them harmless enough for excretion. If you are not taking P-5-P, zinc picolinate, lecethin granules and magnesium citrate then get some, it's the only way forward. Don't fall into the trap of adding more and more supplements, your liver is struggling and for god's sake don't even consider a Liver Flush yet

This is a reply to # 2,391,750Thank you InsomiaBro, wishing you health and happiness soon :) Thanks for your information Susie. How are you sure your symptoms are toxic lymph nodes? I keep switching back in my mind that I’m detoxing or i gave myself some sort of nodule/goiter that is causing these symptoms. My doctor did order a ultrasound, but I basically had to beg for it. I haven’t gotten it done yet, guess I’m kind of scared to see the outcome. Just keep praying/hoping my symptoms clear up. I️ did get a lymphatic drainage massage and it stopped my heart palps, which I couldn’t get under control. Unfortunately it was pricey and getting those even once a week really isn’t an option. I appreciate your input a lot. It’s nice to hear I’m not the only one going through this right now. I’ll have to do more research on lymphatic system. Thank you much!

This is a reply to # 2,391,764The whole of your immune system relies on the lymphatic system for delivering nutrients, removing cell waste and keeping your cells hydrated and then empties into the bowel which has the highest concentration of lymph nodes. The lady who trained me in nutrition wrote a book explaining how critical this is to address, it is called "cellular awakening" and you can get it on amazon, you would find it a useful aid.
All illnesses and symptoms will not improve unless you address lymph flow and cleansing. All of your symptoms you describe indicate a very high level of toxicity in the cells even before you took iodine. You certainly don't need to pay someone for it. I have already explained what you need to do in previous posts. You really need to stop fixating on your thyroid - it is very sensitive to toxicity so it is a symptom of your problem, not a root cause.

So you had an initial good effect of iodine, but quit due to a vacation without it and then hell broke lose health wise. First that come to my mind is to restart iodine, increase the dosage, make sure you take all companions.
Detox after 6 weeks of no iodine; hardly possible. More like a re-intoxication as the fluoride / bromide etc had just another chance to be on top of the chain.

This is a reply to # 2,391,896It’s crazy to me I didn’t experience ANY of these symptoms prior to iodine. I think I’ll take Susie’s advice and try to help my lymphatic system and liver detox. Although I’m getting so scared. All my stools are a bright green and have been for a month now. I’m just so lost as to what is going on in my body. The mucus in my throat is driving me crazy!! Thanks for your advice everyone. I will probably use Iodine as a last resort. PRAYING for some relief

This is a reply to # 2,391,950Good for you, sort out your detox pathways first - to be honest I would recommend staying away from this forum at least until you have your detox under control. I think it is wrong of anyone on this forum to try and encourage you to go back on even higher doses of Iodine when you already are having bad reactions - I stayed off here for several months because of that, and I am only back now to try and advise other people who ended up like me how to start to recover. I only take 1mg of Iodine now, but I stopped completely for 3 months back in february until things calmed down. BTW, the green poo is bile, not necessarily a bad sign, it indicates you liver is dumping toxic bile through the stool, help it along with an enema.

This is a reply to # 2,391,983excellent, I do one a week of coffee, and one a week of water, skin brush every day and Epsom Salt bath once a week. These are lovely gentle support techniques, and that is exactly how to treat your body, gently. I believe the human body has it's own inbuilt wisdom, and if you have found out your toxic load was high then your body wasn't letting it go for a reason i.e. it could not safely do it. I believe Iodine overrides the body's safety mechanism and forces a detox. Then you've got no choice but to go along with it. Best of luck! and don't forget the veg juices with coffee enemas to replace lost minerals.

This is a reply to # 2,392,010When you are struggling with toxicity your liver cannot handle fats. Advising coconut oil etc which is supposed to be healthy will make things worse at the moment. This is because so much energy is being used by your liver to shift toxicity. Lecithin helps the liver move fat out and into the bile. 1 to 2 tbsp a day is enough, not capsules they do not work as they are just an extract. In the meantime, it's best to limit fats to dietary fat and not take extra, e.g. a little ghee melted over vegetables, olive oil drizzled over is fine.

This is a reply to # 2,392,116Some people handle fats better than others. It all depends on the individual circumstances.
Sometimes upping fat intake, being mindful of what types of fats the individual does best on (ie raw fats, saturated, high omega 3, etc etc) can just provide enough bile stimulation to clear things out. Fats are really weak acids, hence the name fatty acids. As such they can actually break down cholesterol stones inside the liver, but for this usually a person must go on a strict diet and limit Sugar and carbohydrate intake.
Stone formation and liver congestion is associated with a low fat diet for some people. They then retreat, eat low fat, feel somewhat better because they're not making things worse and then assume low fat is the way to go. This is not good in the long run. In general I'd say if you're kapha constitution you lean toward low fat, light and dry diets, pitta lean toward cooling moderate fat diets and vata usually does well with higher fat/oily diets.
coffee enemas are one way to cleanse the liver (and colon) but by no means the only way. There are different strategies to use depending on the individual. Some people do well with bitters, which stimulate bile flow. Some people do better with liver flushes, some with coffee enemas. The herb phyllanthus amarus, incorrectly known as chanca piedra sometimes helps break up liver congestion.
Iodine can help to raise body temperature and metabolic rate, thereby in some cases aiding the breakdown or melting of cholesterol stones. The liver is very temperature sensitive.
Coconut is actually a good fat to *try* at least since mct oils do not require the liver for processing. That is probably why whoever recommended coconut did so - it was a good idea imo. But you always have to gauge your own responses to things because rarely does anything work out like internet people say.
Lecithin helps keep bile soluble and emulsify fats when bile is being created. A good natural source of lecithin is raw egg yolks. Some people are sensitive to the type or source of lecithin. You can try raw egg yolks, sunflower or soy derived lecithin, or egg yolk derived lecithin powders.
Some people do well with supplemental methionine and or NAC.
This is a good discussion and very important information to keep in mind when any 'detox' is embarked on. If your liver is not releasing toxins you are not really detoxing.

This is a reply to # 2,392,120Yes some very good points raised. I am talking mainly about supplementary fats. Toxic cells will have reversed polarity, i.e. sodium trapped inside the cells impeded by damaged fats which coat the cells, this always occurs with long term dehydration - it's the body's way of conserving water as it perceives a drought. It is supposed to be a short term solution but when it goes on for a longer period (from childhood in a lot of cases) the liver continues to manufacture a type of cholesterol to coat the cells to protect them from the perceived dehydration threat - the objective with the lecithin and being careful with fat intake is to start breaking down the coating of damaged fats around individual cells so that the cleansing cycle can be properly restored. Continuing with high fat levels even if it is healthy fat without switching off the dehydration alert will just perpetuate it. I am not anti fat, far from it and in this situation dietary fat, e.g. avocados, oily fish etc is fine. But too much easily accessible fat as in spoons of coconut oil will be used by the liver to continue coating cells unless the dehydration alert is stopped, and that message has to come from the colon. Anyone who is having long term bad detox symptoms will be in this situation. I love coconut oil and would recommend it to anyone who is not stuck in a toxic situation. The problem with this forum is many people come on here thinking their low body temperature is their thyroid, so they take high doses of Iodine and screw themselves up if their low body temperature was down to long term dehydration which can't be fixed just with Iodine and companion nutrients unless you are a masochist and enjoy spending months to years feeling really ill and screwing up your job (and alienating all your friends and family) because you are too sick to work.

This is a reply to # 2,392,124In general I think we're on the same page. You definitely want your liver, kidneys, and lymphatic system open and running clean. How to get there, well I think we'd probably disagree on the particulars.
I also agree that there are some people who get into BIG trouble with iodine. Mainly due to the T component of VWT.
I have used high raw fats to cleanse the intestines of plaque so I can say for a fact that at least in 1 case (and there are a lot of other people who were doing and are doing raw paleo that can testify to the same). Your body/liver might not do well with certain fats, that's fine, but not everybody's metabolism works the same. At a certain point years later I switched over to mainly fruits and carbs, so again at least for n=1 I think it's a dynamic situation.
As far as I last researched the oxidized cholesterol plaques were mainly an arterial problem. It could very well be a cellular problem too, which is why raw fats are safer. If you consume raw vegetable fats then you must extract them yourself to ensure they aren't rancid. And even in the case of good quality flax oil it can oxidize or become unstable as soon as you ingest it (see Budwig for more). There are a lot of twists and turns and assumptions as to what is going on in the entire processing and digestion chain.
BTW some people get into even bigger problems with lecithin than they do with iodine. It is such a good arterial scrubber that large pieces of plaque can get dislodged, hit the bloodstream, and they bye-bye heart or hello emergency room.
There are a whole lot of Polish people who do the Kwasniewski shuffle ie more saturated fat than you could imagine in your worst nightmare, and they wind up cleaning out their livers, kidneys and intestines, curing a lot of diseases. There are many roads to the top.
I seriously doubt that the ONLY cause for cells being unable to exchange sodium is excess fats. There are probably hundreds of different causes.
You can search the archives for tze tze's intestine cleanse, which was basically just stolen info from the raw paleo people, where people were passing all sorts of parasites and gunk from raw egg yolks.
Also I would say that any condition of low body temperature is related to thyroid function. There might be serious lymphatic blockages that are one of the impediments to thyroid function in that case, but still the thyroid is the body's thermostat. Yes, drinking droppersful of Iodine might not resolve the condition, but that doesn't mean the thyroid is not involved.
Healthy fats have different meanings to different people. If you were a Ray Peatist you would not be eating any avocado or fish oil period, nor any vegetable oils.

This is a reply to # 2,392,124Hey Susie, just looking for someone to talk to. I’m feeling really hopeless, lost and depresssed. So depressed. My life flipped upside down within a month. I have IBS according to my doctor. She prescribed me diahreea medication and anxiety meds. I’m not sure I should take either. If this is just detox, i would like to let my body naturally do that. I am now 100 pounds. My usual weight is 125. My mom wants me to go to ER again, but I really don’t think they can help me. I am just wondering how long it took for you to see some relief? I was thinking of adding Bentonite clay to baths as another way to help my body detox, but I am so scared to create any kind of reaction in my angry body. I’m starting to think maybe the Iodine triggered some sort of autoimmune condition. I just don’t know!!! What kind of diet do you think would best help my body during this time? I hate to lose any more weight, but willing to do absolutely anything to feel better. Thanks for any advice!

This is a reply to # 2,392,408I dropped a lot of weight like you, had extreme anxiety and very bad palpitations and it went on for about 3 months. The meds will just cause more congestion and confusion, the anxiety and runs is your body's way of telling you that it is clearing out a lot of toxicity, don't impede it! I am 60 years old so probably far more accumulated toxicity than you. I had to have beta blockers for a few weeks which I didn't want but there is heart problems in my family. It is a detox you are going through, what has happened is your body does not have the reserves to handle what has been released so whether you take Iodine or not it will run it's course so all you can do is support it. I felt fantastic for the 4 months I was taking 3mg of Iodine until my detox started. I think what happened with me and probably you is the Iodine kept displacing hallides, heavy metals etc which went into the liver, kidneys, lymph etc instead of out through the bowel and then saturation point was reached so the body started a healing crisis. Without the reserves to finish it, it kept going. I don't believe auto immunity would be triggered by what you did, it would already be there. ER will not help you, they did not help me. Your liver needs most support and all I have previously recommended are gentle naturopathic support techniques that will calm things down a bit over time. Base your diet on vegetables, fruit and clean protein, no grains and minimize fats - 1 potion of oily fish, a little ghee and small quantities of coconut oil added to food weekly is enough so as not to overwhelm the liver. Half to 3/4 pint of carrot juice daily, and take the supplements I mentioned before, especially the P5P - if you are not breaking down B6 which is quite likely this will leave nothing to chance. If you want to PM me I can highly recommend a telephone conference with a renowned british naturopath if you have skype it would be not too expensive. It does get better, but now is the time to take things out rather than keep putting things in. People on here talk about shortages of this that and the other, but this situation requires gentle hydration and gentle diet, not masses of different supplements. Don't forget 2 litres of clean water daily. I am not anti iodine, and I do intend to start taking a higher dose of it once I am fully detoxed, but I would never take the mega doses. I am 95% better now, my only remaining symptom is the throbbing glands in the neck which tells me my lymph is still getting congested. This relieves instantly with enemas. All of my chronic symptoms were due to the lymphatic congestion, as it has nowhere to go - it can't get out of the body without your manual intervention.

This is a reply to # 2,392,120Good to look at is reasons some metabolize fats different or better than others.
One important factor is pantoghenic acid vit. B5, which is necessary for the body to make Coenzyme A which is a key player in fatty acid metabolism, and synthesis. Those deficient in B5 is a reason why different people "appear" to metabolize fats differently.
Other factors also, example delta 6 desaturase enzyme for converting linoleic into g-linolenic acid, many middle age people lack nutrients needed for that enzyme, and they appear to age faster. Have to look at all factors in fatty acid metabolism, I gave two for a starter

This is a reply to # 2,395,676Get a good quality lecithin granule, soya lecithin is fine as long as it is none GMO. You need at least a tablespoon a day with food. 2 tablespoons in divided doses is good if you can afford it
