Re: For the parrot and the cuckoo jab

Hi Biosafe,

I wanted to thank you for the links you PM'd me I read them all and found them to be informative.

A little background, my bird has been sick for about 6 months. She has had full lab work ups done in the course of trying to figure what is wrong with her. We have a number of birds, including three parrots, and are very aware of the dangers of heavy metal poisoning, especially knowing the way they like to chew things up. So as a precaution, although her cage is a heavy "powder coated" cage and she has no access to any galvanized metal, we did do a heavy metal test for both zinc and lead and they both came back negative. As did tests for psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD).

Since you are familiar with birds a little more detail may be useful. The growth is actually located in her ventriculus and was diagnosed through a fluoroscopy exam. We have considered doing a biopsy on it, but this would have to be done through an endoscopic procedure with an ingluviotomy done to allow access. This medical procedure had enough downside risk, including death on the OR table, that I have been look for alternative answers for her.

I am comfortable gavaging her with a stainless steel crop needle, so ensuring her dosing is exact is not an issue, once I am clear on the correct dosing regime for a bird her size, 450 grams. The dose would be part of 5-8 mL that she could comfortably take through gavage.

Thanks again for the responding,

Karyn
