re: Traffic Tickets
" I am also going to start telling all of the cops who stop me for speeding that I appreciate the desire to be a public servant and respect those who have such dangerous jobs, but I have an ethical issue with people threatening to put me in jail if I don't pay their salary for protecting me, and I always take speeding tickets to trial by jury as a matter of habit. And then I will let them know that they are welcome to just give me a warning this time, unless they enjoy testifying at jury trials as much as I enjoy requesting them. "
FWIW, Cops love it when the people they pull over start talking. The first thing they do is ask for your license, registration, and proof of insurance. After they find out that you are just a citizen, and all your papers are good they will say something like [Do you know how fast you were going?], or some other question about why they stopped you.
After many, many years of professional driving, I have found that the best response is "Everything on my license is current
He will probably repeat his question, Same response. What you need to understand is this. Nothing you say is going to change his mind about the ticket he is going to write. Chances are good he is in the traffic division and that's their main focus, writing tickets. If it's a bike cop I gaurantee it. Some have quotas. Anything you say he is going to write on his copy of the citation for later in court. So if you come off with an attitude about him, or the system this will be in court when you show up.
Don't say anything until you get to court. Yes I know, you're pissed off, but bite your tongue and save what you have about the ticket, but leave out the attitude about the system, or officer.
Just use the technical stuff you mentioned. If any thing is not right about the certifications of him or the equipment you will probably win.
