Re: my problem with raw vegan diet

I was not aware of this site at the time. nor did I do particular kidney cleanses such as Hulda Clark 's. I did, however, do ultimate cleanse which is a highly acclaimed herbal product sold in health food stores. In general I basically read the raw food books like david wolfe and followed their recommendations.

I did a number of one day fasts and a few that were 2 to 5 days long. I also did a lot of 1 to 2 day juice fasts. I did one Liver Flush with more oil than is ideal (I think david wolfe recommended 1 cup of oil) and threw up some. But I did pass a few stones. Also remember that I was only 22 at the time and in decent health.

I also lived in spain and hawaii and did that because I thought that being raw it was important to have the best food available. Let me tell you, it does help. Avocadoes in hawaii are so much tastier and fresher. And there are like 100 different types. And there are tropical greens that are really good like Katuk. That is a very healthy food.

But still something was missing for me. It just didn't work for me. no matter whether I was living in the olive groves of spain or the coconut groves of hawaii. I just wasn't happy and my body suffered too. The only time I even approached contentness is when trying to eat more like apes and eat only wild greens. Something like 98% of wild plants are edible. so I started experimenting. I would take an unidentified lead and chew it up in my mouth. i would spit it out without swallowing. Some plants are so poisonous that a drop can kill you. So I made sure to not even swallow a drop the first time. If I wasn't sick the next day then I would go back and swallow a nibble of that plant. Again, if I was okay the next day I would go back a third time and eat a mouthful and then I knew it was okay to eat that plant. I found some very tasty plants that way. And actually learned later that some of them are known edible plants.

So I think a diet like that could work. Makes you alkaline really really strongly. Makes you feel great. Except that I think it is hard to get enough protein that way. some people will tell you that there is lots of protein in greens. But there is also lots of protein in a leather sofa. See, protein is no good unless your body can extract and use it. And I am not sure that humans are still as good as apes and cows at doing that. It has been a few million years of evolutionary branching.

As for your other question. Fruit today is SO much more sugary than wild fruit that apes eat. So I don't think that store bought fruit is something that is good for the main part of the diet. Now eating fruit like cucumbers and tomatoes seems to work well for me. A diet more like that plus sprouted almonds and maybe sprouted sunflower seeds, maybe that would work.

I just think that it is so hard to meet a) the broad nutritional array we need and b) our desire for variety in taste. It just seems hard to do as a raw vegan.

Having said that I still DO believe that the raw vegan diet is excellent. I just think that to do it for an extended period requires a LOT more CAUTION and objective criticism than I find among people and the authors.
