Family on my mother and fathers side lived in the country and hills respectively and I can honestly say that I REMEMBER when mom and dad began complaining about foods that had little to no taste... about 40 years ago when they moved to N.J. across the river from Philadelphia, from an upstate N.Y. country home.

We had almost 3 acres of gardens between us and the neighbors on all sides... man that was eatin' as young as I was, I remember it and there has been nothing like it since, even my own home grown stuff now. Of course we spent as much time building the soil as doing anything else.

I think it had a little to do with the stay at home mom and such to, that lent itself to more of that type of lifestyle.
