I stop eating at Midnight.
I am at the hospital by 7:30 am
I need to get up by 6:00 am

_#25 took viocodon this morning... Around 6:15 am. It is 9:10 now. Waiting on same day surgery. No pain. Want to ask questions of the doctor.
Where is life taking me? Where am I taking life? I feel a pain right now increasing. I better check on a refill of Vicodin. I have nine left until the Procedure Wednesday morning. I do not want to be caught with no pain killer I can use. I can not use ibuprofen anymore because it is a blood thinner. New Info this morning. It is countdown to the procedure.
UPDATE:
Nadine helped me get to the Alvarado Hospital by 7:30 am. I was able to
begin to slip into Your Enchanted Gardener mode. I said goodbye to some special plants and carried a fragrant rose into the surgery room.
I did not sign the consent for surgery until I saw the doctor a few minutes
before the intervention procedure. He let me know that the stent would be out next week when I see him at our Post Op Appointment.
This was what I needed to know.
The thought that some patients have it left in for six months would have been unbearable.

I am having pain in my right flank. I am not in a right relationship to the surgical procedure tomorrow, called Laser Liprotripsy. The procedure involves going through the penis into the Uretra to use a Lazer to break up a Kidney Stone. In my case, it is a 5 cm Kidney stone. The pain is persistent unless I am taking Western Pharmaceutical Pain Killers.
I would like to get deeper into the spirituality behind this experience--the "Getting Hip" part of it--but before I can do that--I have to go pay the rent.
"Getting Hip" is a title of a book I have been working on over the years. It is a reference to Hip Revisions I had in 2001. The idea was that through my Getting Hip Revisions, I would help Healthcare Get Hip to all it could be.
Donna, the nurse, who took my intake interview over the phone this morning, July 2, sounded like a good nurse. She has worked at the Alvarado Hospital for a decade, she said. This is the closest hospital to my house. I like that, but I am feeling a distance from the Surgeon and this surgical procedure.
I feel the bedside manner between a patient and asurgeon is incredibly important. I had a great relationship to Dr. William Bugbee, my hip surgeon. I have a great relationship with Dr. Mini Guernari, the cofounder of Scripps Integrative Medicine Center.
Some healing needs to take place. More info needs to be forthcoming, optimally now, before I agree to go through with this full heartedly.
The Post Op appointment is seven days after the intervention tomorrow, July 3. I thought that was a long time. I called the nurse at Dr. Mohamid Bidair's office. I wanted to know when the stents would be coming out. Stents are these tubes that are left in the ureters, as best I understand. It seemed that the doctor or the Physician's Assistant (PA) said they would be out a few days after the surgery. I thought seven days would be too long a wait to have strings attached to my penis--literally and figuratively.
The nurse today reported that sometimes the doctor will leave the stents and strings attached in for a long time!
I really need a doctor working with me on this who can grasp the nature of who I am as a patient. I am not here to join the Club of Western Med 100%. I am also here for Western Med to join the Club of Getting Hip to what Healthcare can be. I deeply appreciate heroic measures that Western Meds give in extreme conditions. The level of pain from these kidney stones has had me screaming. I have felt during the last ten days that I would take anything--almost--for pain relief.
On the other hand, these Western Meds need to be balanced with the way I live my life.
Herbs and natural healing approaches cannot be left out of the equation for me, and yet, the longer the strings are attached to me, the longer I will be sucked into this system that leads from one drug to another, from one side effect to another. One of the requirements of this procedure, as I understand now, was that I stop using all the herbs I have been using during these days of the procedure. I had been using these herbs in hopes that I could dissolve the stones. I am really disappointed that i have not been able to dissolve them--not in this short period of time. I have had a lot of grief and disappointment about this. The Kidney Stone is stuck in my ureter it feels.
I am also concerned that I will be limited in using the herbs I want to use in my post op experience.
I have had a crash course in Western Meds the last ten days
My strategy the last ten days was to manage the pain, and then work with dissolving the Kidney Stones naturally.
I have found that there is a main function to each drug--but no one seems to see the drug from a wholistic point of view. They do not take into account that one drug leads to another drug, and these drugs as I have learned since the Big Moon of June 22--do not function according to any plan.
Their has been no rhyme or season to explaining the high levels of pain that I have experienced in the last ten days. Sometimes the drugs would relieve pain for a few hours merely, sometimes, I could not control the pain regardless of taking double doses. Other times, I have felt that foods I have been eating and herbs did not interact with the drugs in a good way.
I have attempted to make peace with various drugs. One Percocet, a narcotic has given me all allergic reaction. I broke out in itches on my back. This was substituted with Vicodin. I have also been using Ibuprofen, as well as the Vicodin. I thought I made peace with Motrin--Ibuprofen on Sunday, but then, I learned that you cannot take this drug while undergoing surgery. It is a blood thinner.
Vicodin? Friend?
I am not on completely good terms with Vicodin. This drug does not consistently manage my pain. Something about these white pills repulses me,
I do not imagine that anyone cares to know how Vicodin interacts with various foods.
Vicodin It does not seem to do well with melons in my body. There were days when I felt constipated.
I also have experienced inconsistent drug results when I have mixed Poplar herb with the Motrin, and perhaps the Vicodin.
It is hard to do a natural regimen of kidney stone cleansing and using the drugs at the same time.
Some of these drugs require food with them.
I am not sure what Vicodin really asks. I have not made a friend out of it.
It seems to do better with food. I am not sure it likes to be effective on an empty stomach.
My pain is still here.
I am sucking it up.
I want to go pay the rents, and then surrender to the spiritual side of this experience.

It is time to take another pill of Vicodin.
How Long Will the Stent Be Left in My Body?
What is the length of time the doctor imagines I will have this stent in my body? I need to know this information now, from the doctor. This will determine what other remedial measures I can use to recover. I do not want to go down this road of one drug leading to another, one antibiotic leading to another, that goes down a long a dark road sucking me into where?

I also want to sent thanks in the direction of the staff and nurses of Dr. Mohamid Bedair. They have been helpful in meeting my needs for refills, and attempting to get answers to my questions. It seems that the doctor has been out of town during much of the time I have had questions.
Some of these questions about the length of time the stent will be in may be answered when I see the doctor at the hospital in the AM.
I deeply appreciated as well that when I worked with Dr. William Bugbee he appreciated that I advocated for myself. This is a trend coming in that is part of Integrative medicine.
I need to be in charge of my own healing as best I can.
This is not something I can turn over to a doctor.
I am sorry, but I do not believe I was created to have strings attached to my penis. literally or figuratively.

We have a lot in Western Medicine to learn from Integrative Medicine that takes the best from all worlds. Co-existence, in the world of GMO Ag and Organic Agriculture may not really be possible. The GMO contaminates the Organic Seed. In this moment, I sense we are hardly even breaking ground. Eastern Medicine and Nature Studies were never intended to be put on the back shelf of the healing process. In my most recent bout with Kidney stones that took me to the ER on June 22, I am forced to look at my own relationship to Food as Medicine, and my Lifestyle that has helped me grow stones in my kidneys. The Journey, hopefully continues. When I had Hip Revisions in 2001, I imagined that through my Getting Hip Revisions, I could help Healthcare Get Hip to being all it could be. I do not want to forget this deep purpose when I undergo surgery on to blast these stones, likely July 3 at Alvarado Hospital.

Success! I set the timer for six hours. I did not have pain in between the six hours. This is a breakthrough. The next breakthrough will be to get the Kidney stones to desolve!
