One of the highlights of the National Heirloom Expo each year is accepting the invitation to Plant Your Dream from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company's very own ceremonialist Leslie Goldman, who calls himself Your Enchanted Gardener. In 2016, Leslie began sharing his interactive poems called the Seven Love Cures that he created to increase understanding between Men and Women. He presented a number of these poems in his signature "call and repeat" manner at the Medicine Show stage.
A bona fide climate-shifter, Leslie teaches that we can end the drought in our lives through cultivating our relationship with Heirloom Seeds and with each other.
One of the many exhibitors at the yearly Expo held in early September, Leslie Goldman drives his 1968 VW van thousands of miles on an arduous journey each year. He calls this The Enchanted Garden Mobile's Journey To Win Back Our Sacred Seed Nature. He drives from San Diego to Santa Rosa--and beyond--because he believes so strongly in the importance of the yearly West Coast gathering that is organized by the staff of the Baker Creek heirloom seed company, with the help of many volunteers.
On his journeys and at the Heirloom Expo, he gives away commemorative Baker Creek Enchanted Garden "Plant Your Dream Seed" Starter Kit Packets; these are intended for ceremonial use! Grow them in a pot for portability, or put them in a special spot in your garden. The packet contains non-GMO organic seeds from Kamut International. This ancient wheat can sprout into grass often within a number of days.

CREATING HEIRLOOM STORIES
Zia Lara met the bean that was part of her indigenous heritage at the Terra Madre Garden where Leslie had asked for it to be planted. The auspicious meeting get her in touch with her indigenous roots that had lineage in the TaraHumara Tribe
Jere Gettle, founder of Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, teaches that many seeds can become heirlooms as we share them from generation to generation and create personal stories that bring the seeds to life.
Numbers of the Baker Creek rare seeds have become Leslie's favorites-- including most recently Oja de Cabra, Eye of the Goat bean-- that he says gives us strength for life's long journey. This was originally a bean of the Tarahumara Indians of Northern Mexico. When their indigenous culture was at its height, the tribe members could run far distances on a simple diet that included this Heirloom bean.
Leslie planted that particular seed in 2016 all year long, and then in August he met a very special artist, Zia Lara, who had deep emotional ties with the bean because of her direct lineage within the Tarahumara tribe. Zia planted her dreams and joined The Enchanted Garden Club, supporting his journey. Leslie commissioned her to create an art piece that will be displayed at the 2017 National Heirloom Expo.
Zia says that her dreams began to grow when she met Leslie. Many others attest that "Plant Your Dream" works!
Zia's Art Work uses Eye of the Goat bean, Oja de Cabra. She calls it one of her finest works to date.
BEING A RAIN-MAKER!
Baker Creek's own farmer David Kaiser, whose image appears along with Leslie's on the Plant Your Dream Seeds packet, has been witness to Leslie's high intentionality to bring rain through planting seeds.
Leslie asked a number of children and grownups to Plant the Dream Seeds at the display of the Enchanted Garden Mobile at the 2016 Expo.
At the North American Permaculture convergence, September 14-18, several days following the National Heirloom Expo, in the closing ceremony, a child watered the seeds with San Diego rainwater. Wouldn't you know it! San Diego had storms and rain for the next 48 hours in that drought area.

FAVORITE STORY AND QUOTE
One of his favorite quotes is from Henry David Thoreau who said, "Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders."
Leslie often tells the story of Luther Burbank, the Santa Rosa seed and plant lover, who lived at the time of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake 80% of San Francisco was destroyed and devastated parts of Northern California; However, Luther Burbank's own glass greenhouse never shattered.
The greenhouse is located at the Luther Burbank Home and Gardens, a few miles from where our very special sacred seed community of the Expo gathers at the Sonoma Fairgrounds. One project in the pipeline is to have some of Luther Burbank's celebrated seed packet designs featured in the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company Collection.
