Plenty of religions all claim that their holy books somehow came from God or are approved by God. They all are delusional and mythical, sure. But the Bible is a particularly poor work if you are looking for more than entertainment or intriguing literature. The Bible must be a terribly poor source for any reliable information about God. Even if you are tempted to take it seriously, all the contradictions and confusions are embarrassing, even by religious standards. Christianity couldn’t help but remain disorganized for all these centuries, with every denomination and church trying to force the poor Bible to fit some creed or another. No wonder Christianity can conjure up a unified faith only towards an utterly mysterious God. I’ve long been skeptical about whether “Christianity” exists, but that’s a story for another time.
There is no original Bible to look at, and not even any early single Bible for reading. When the difficulties of translating the original Greek into Latin or English are added to the situation, it is impossible to avoid the judgment that human transcription and interpretation thoroughly pervade the many different Bibles that Christians read today. Christians have forever disagreed about their Bibles – many denominations have split over and over again because of arguments over the exact text and best translation of the Bible. If Christians can’t even agree on what the Bible really is, nonbelievers have every right to be skeptical that we are even talking about something real.
If a Christian declares confidence that the scriptural Word of God is correct, the immediate response should be: which Bible? A Bible that no one can read? One of the early manuscripts? Which one? Which later edition and translation? Christianity does not seem to have “A Bible.” If Christianity cannot even identify its Bible, how could anyone else?
We can see how there are many, many books called the Bible in print today, but I have stopped assuming that anything like “The Bible” is real. There is no such thing as “The Bible”.

You'll find out the truth of it on judgment day, won't you tomi? The same word that you reject now as God's message to us will stand as your judge on that day.
Meantime, you can avoid finding yourself on the wrong side of that judgment by reading such books as F F Bruce's 'The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable?', J B Phillips' 'Ring of Truth', or even B M Metzger's 'The Text of the New Testament - Its Transmission, Corruption and Restoration'. All three are top drawer scholars who will show all your skeptics a clean pair of heels where this subject is concerned. And there are many others I could cite, but I hafta draw the line somewhere.
So, either consider the evidence on the other side of that coin, or simply continue to spout your litany of half truths, gross misrepresentations of the facts, and even outright lies. While some readers might be fooled by your agnostic rationalism, hopefully the majority will see straight thru your unashamed appeal to and use of straw men.
Or were you perhaps just being deliberately provocative to draw a counterblast from me? Coz if so, then you know me far too well than is good for your own health.

Here goes:
Okay, so I see you got much of your information from these two websites. They look like demonically inspired websites designed to deceive people. Certainly, most Christians today know that none of the Bibles today are the original God-breathed word given to the prophets and apostles, but rather translations of copies upon copies of what originally started as the God-breathed Word of God. Satan is playing that tune for all he can to deceive and confuse as many people as he can. Many are being deceived by this type of literature/teaching. The major problem that satan has with this line of deception is that he cannot do anything about the Holy Spirit who convicts people's hearts and opens their eyes to the truth of it all. Some people have hearts that are so hardened that they either cannot hear the Holy Spirit speaking truth to them, or they refuse to hear Him. Yes, satan will win many over to himself, but not all. There will be a remnant who will hear the Holy Spirit and know the truth.

You should know that I don't believe that at all. Satan loves people to believe that they represent the true Christians in order to deceive to try to point out the faults and to make Christianity out to be a fraud . Many ministers are not even saved. Many Popes were not even saved. Much evil has been done using the name of Christ, but the evil was not from the true Christ. Satan wants people to believe that it is all Christianity in order to deceive. I'm surprised you missed all those posts.

I've been surprised more than ever lately how many christians do say the Pope represents God. For example, this is a statement from a man I used to think had a good understanding of christianity:
"Could it be that those who are angry at the Pope, think he is in hell and would be glad if he were, are the ones that might end up there themselves, and that those who, like the Pope, get some of the propositions wrong (from my Evangelical perspective) but who have a heart for Jesus and do incredible works of righteousness will be in heaven...and maybe even right up close to the throne?"
And the man who said that is someone who has gone to great lengths to teach that salvation is by grace alone, but yet he turns right around and makes it sound like the Pope's "incredible works of righteousness" is why he has reason to believe he'll be in heaven and "even right up close to the throne". This statement wasn't about the current Pope, but still mind boggling nonetheless considering every Pope has stood in opposition of Jesus Christ and the gospel by the very nature of his position alone.

This is a reply to # 2,413,489Good post, Vekkky. Have you heard on alternative news that the current Pope is involved in high crimes? Main stream media is covering it up. They tried to arrest him when he left his protected place called the Vatican. He was not worried apparently because he had plenty of body guards to protect him when he left. Instead of arresting him the law enforcement officers were beaten by those protecting the Pope. One was even hospitalized. They were unable to arrest him. The news source was predicting that the only way the Catholic church could save face was to have him resign for some possibly made up reason in case any of this comes out. A few weeks later I heard on Fox News that he is being asked to resign by Catholics for things not related to his personal crimes, but for knowing about the crimes of others. I think the truth about him will come out someday.

This is a reply to # 2,413,498Yes, there are a huge number of Catholics in the world. We already know that. I believe many of them are saved, however, just being a Catholic does not mean a person is saved. We have discussed how to get saved on this forum many times. Catholics have to get saved the same way any other person has to get saved. Belonging to a certain group is not a guarantee of salvation no matter how large that group is.
We also know that we have many in our government who are corrupt. Yes, that means they could have something to do with the cover up. Many Christians are praying for our government. This is a reply to # 2,413,529Regeneration has nothing to do with belonging to a religious group, or not belonging to a religious group. Regeneration is a work of the Holy Spirit in a life. Jesus referred to it as becoming born again. It is the work of the Holy Spirit making a person a new creature in Christ. The Holy Spirit has made all things new in a life when He has regenerated that person. I'd give you the verses, but I know you don't believe in the Bible.
Now if you are talking about a person renewing their mind after they have become regenerated (saved), that is a different story. God has instructed us to renew our minds. Again, I'd give you the verse, but again I know how you feel about the Bible. A religious group can definitely matter in that case. If we hook up with the wrong group we could learn a bunch of false doctrines. Our minds would not be renewed at all, but instead be brainwashed with false teaching. This is a reply to # 2,413,694I totally agree with everything you say and I know that it is written in the bible. In fact I can give you a book that explained what you say it is called "The Spiritual Man" but when I downloaded it here I was basically rubbished as per usual but not one person read it all. One actually said they didn't understand it which I was totally aghast because that person admitted to be into the spiritual side of God.
As far as the bible is concerned I'd be a fool if I actually disagreed with it all. I was told long ago when I started my journey into Christianity to take the best that I could from it. Maybe you might see that is cherry picking because people here said that one must agree with every word for it was the word of God. It never turned out that way to me so I soldiered on irrespective of the insults thrown at me.
If I talked about 'Satan' I was accused of being taken over by his supposed power etc etc and on it still goes.

This is a reply to # 2,413,695Some of us tried to read it. I know Refreshed spent a lot of time on it. It was not that I disagree with him, or his theology, that is the problem. From what I have heard Watchman Nee was a respected man of God. I'm sure the book is very good. Watchman was a Chinese man from a different culture. It is the way he presents his information that makes it hard for simple people like me from the States to understand. If I were from his time and culture it is possible that I would have understood it. I cannot take anymore time on this book because I don't understand it. It is almost like trying to read a foreign language. It is really a waste of my time which is so precious to me right now.
