You can't pick who your parents are going to be and it's not your fault. I had a NPD relative and at first I was angry with them for a few years then I accepted they are not what they should of been and never will be. I keep my distance and don't miss them one bit. I feel disappointed they aren't caring/loving people but happy I am not involved with them anymore. It can be hard to accept that some people aren't what they should of been to you but once you do it will help you move on. Cognitive and Behavior therapy has helped me come to terms with people in my life.
Feeling Good by David Burns is a really good book to start with.
