Going Within Pt. 1

When Searching for the Mysteries of Life We are Often Told Go Within. Lipton Shows Us in Biology of Belief that We Can Go within Our Own Bodies not Just Our Spirits or Our Minds to Find the Answers

Many of us are familiar with the teaching that in order to find the answers to life’s mysteries go within. Search within yourself for a divine connection for the divine resides within you and within all others. This is why meditation has been an important part of so many different traditions around the world for centuries and has become increasingly popular in modern culture as people yearn for a connection to the divine. I also have used meditation and mindfulness to go within and realize my connection to God and the universe. I have learned many lessons this way.

However, after reading this book I have realized that there is another aspect to this going within. Up until this point, I had only thought of it in the context of going within my mind and my soul. I now realize that many of life’s answers can also be found by going within my body. To go within and observe the makeup of this form where my spirit is housed. Lipton calls this in his book: living the lessons of cells. Here is a short snippet:

“You may consider yourself an individual, but as a cell biologist I can tell you that you are in truth a cooperative community of approximately 50 trillion single-celled citizens. Almost all of the cells that make up your body are amoeba-like, individual organisms that have evolved a cooperative strategy for their mutual survival. Reduced to basic terms, human beings are simply the consequence of “collective amoebic consciousness.” As a nation reflects the traits of its citizens, our human-ness must reflect the basic nature of our cellular communities… Using these cell communities as role models, I came to the conclusion that we are not victims of our genes, but masters of our fates, able to create lives overflowing with peace, happiness and love.” (Lipton, pg. 27)

So what then are some of these lessons we can learn from cells. Well I believe one is what I would call a lesson in survival. Many people currently believe that the planet and the human race is currently going through a transition to a higher consciousness. As more and more individuals transform their lives and free themselves from the negative thoughts, limiting beliefs and fears of the past and step into their role as a powerful co-creator of life, they help to raise the collective consciousness of the entire human race. But this raising of consciousness can only be done through a process of cooperation and unity. This is something that most have taught from a spiritual or philosophical viewpoint, but Lipton’s book points out that this is an actual scientifically proven process that has been taking place for millions upon millions years affecting all of Earth’s organisms. At its basic form the lesson of survival we learn from the history of our very own planet could be loosely summarized as follows: Cooperation leads to more awareness and more awareness allows for greater survival. Lipton continually stresses in his book that this is very different from the Darwinian model of survival of the fittest.

When you really think about it, the world has been operating according to Darwin’s model for centuries. In an over obsessive pursuit to be the fittest, we have waged war against plants, animals, our environment, ourselves and against mother earth as a whole. We no longer define survival as the ability to co-exist and thrive peacefully within our environment. No. Now it is calculated in terms of domination, supremacy and exploitation. Yet if we translated these same human pursuits and devices into the language of our own physiology and into our cells what would happen? An environment where cells attack cells and dominate them exploiting their resources and growing beyond their normal confines without any regard for the overall health and stability of the organism. We would call this cancer or disease. And yet this is the model that our forbears have passed on to us. This is the practice of the rich and powerful of our world.

That is why it is so essential for each of us to plug ourselves out of this matrix and wake up. We must begin to take back our power and finally realize that we are all interconnected and share a common heritage of being co-creators with God. I truly believe that once we find unity within, we will be able to achieve unity with all other living things. This unity is what will usher in an age of cooperation necessary for the raising of our collective consciousness and ensure our continued survival on this planet.

In order to give you an idea of how this has occurred in the past, I quote from Lipton:

“Single-celled organisms were the first life forms on this planet. Fossil evidence reveals they were here within 600 million years after the Earth was first formed… Around 750 million years ago, these smart cells figured out how to get smarter when the first multicellular organisms (plants and animals) appeared. Multicellular life forms were initially loose communities or “colonies” of single-celled organisms. At first, cellular communities consisted of tens and hundreds of cells. But the evolutionary advantage of living in a community soon led to organizations comprised of millions, billions and even trillions of socially interactive single cells… The evolutionary push for ever-bigger communities is simply a reflection of the biological imperative to survive. The more awareness an organism has of its environment, the better its chances for survival. When cells band together they increase their awareness exponentially… Unfortunately, we conveniently “forgot” about the cooperation necessary for evolution when Charles Darwin emphasized a radically different theory about the emergence of life… For Darwin, struggle and violence are not only a part of animal (human) nature, but the principal “forces” behind evolutionary advancement.” (Lipton, 40-41)

Later in the epilogue of the book, Lipton addresses the necessity for a unity conscious world. He recognizes that we are all part of the same energy that could be termed God or the universe. We are simply individualized projections of that energy. He analogizes this belief to the production of a rainbow from a spectrum.

“Think of each human being’s identity as an individual color frequency within the rainbow spectrum. If we arbitrarily eliminate a specific frequency, a color, because we don’t “like it,” and then try to put the remaining frequencies back through the prism, the exiting beam will no longer be white light… I see that White Light will only return to the planet when every human being recognizes every other human being as an individual frequency of the White Light. As long as we keep eliminating or devaluing other human beings we have decided we don’t like, i.e. destroying frequencies of the spectrum, we will not be able to experience the White Light. Our job is to protect and nurture each human frequency so that the White Light can return.” (Lipton, pg. 194)

What a great way to put it. I think we all can understand this concept. We are all a part of the divine energy and love we call God. Each one of us is an intricate and important component that makes up the whole. With even one part missing you fundamentally change the whole. This is as true for our own physiology as it is for the universe. If you begin erasing or removing certain genes, proteins, cells or organs within your body, don’t you alter the overall makeup and workings of that body? Where once there was balance and harmony, now there is illness and disease. Do we really want the type of illness and disease that can be created within our own bodies to be present in our world and in our universe? I think the unfortunate part is that most people probable believe it already has.

Irregardless of that, once we are aware of this possibility or for some this reality it becomes our responsibility to take charge and create a world that will bring us joy, happiness, balance and health. It’s time to fix things people and you can start by fixing yourself. Once you recognize that you are an important part of that spectrum, you begin to see all others as important parts as well.

Here is a blog message I wrote some time ago about creating unity:
